EditPlus

It is a text editor which I use instead of Notepad. Its below mentioned features helps me in increasing productivity.

Features
  1. Regular expression
    • Use of Regular expression finding a string in the text.
    • Use of regular expression for replacing the text will new text.
  2. Short hand keys
    • Use of short keys for formatting the text.
    • Ex. Ctrl+U for making the text upper case.
  3. Column Markers
    • One can set the column markers. It shows a verticle line at the column which is marked. When writing it helps me to limit the characters on a single line.
  4. Rulers
    • Ruler on the top helps to find number of characters in the row.
  5. Line Numbers
    • It shows line numers which helps user to know which line number he is editing.
  6. Find in files
    • To me this is very important feature which helps me to find the "Specified Text" in all the files which are specified in the criteria. Ex. If you want to find the function name which is used in different files.
  7. Multiple Files
    • It can open multiple files for editing at a time.
    • We can perform find/replace operations on the one file or on all open files.

    IISAdmin

    On Windows XP Professional IIS (Version 5.1) it is not possible for one to create multiple websites.

    As a developer we always find ourself working on multiple websites. This might be because of multiple tasks which we are working on or working on two different codeset. On XP professional everytime you switch between task you will have to keep changing the IIS settings. And if you have multiple virtual directories it will add to the frustration.

    After googling a bit, I found the solution to the problem is that using IISAdmin. IIS Admin utility allowed me to create multiple websites under Windows XP Pro. Only limitation was one can be started at a time.

    Even if we can start one website at a time, it reduced my time of changing all the settings everytime between tasks. Now I just need to stop one and use one which is needed for my task.

    This tool can be used for comparing files as well as folders.

    Depends.exe

    I was getting the error that "Unable to load the DLL".

    No Idea which DLL is missing. To find which DLL is not found, I used the Dependancy Walker which looks into the Source and finds all the DLLs which are needed. If any missing DLL it shows the details of the same.

    I really find it very handy to find if any DLLs is missing. It can be used on an Executable or an Library (DLL).

    Folder Size

    I wanted to free-up my disk space.

    Easiest way to delete the folder which is having maximum size. ABC rule. Instead of deleting many folder with less size, if I delete few folders which is occupying large size, in less time I can freeup my space.

    Folder-Size, I used this to findout size of each folder present on my machine.
